Power of Motivational Quotes

Got a website? Understanding the power of motivational quotes

Are you an admirer of the famous books of quotations? If not, browsing the famous quotes of both prominent names in history and anonymous gems can be quite thought provoking, as well as entertaining. If you have a website, motivational quotes can provide some succinct meat to your basic message.

For example, let’s say you have a blog which focuses on ‘outside the box’ concepts. A motivational quote, properly chosen and included as part of your signature for each post, can remind your readers of your basic premise. Such a simple inclusion can boost your readership, retaining interest in what you have to say, as well as providing an anchor they can hang their mental hat upon, no matter how far afield you may apparently wander. If your blog entries are diverse in subject matter, your readers may wonder why you’re so all over the map. A motivational quote, included with each post, can dispel the puzzled looks and turn your blog into a site your readers understand and read on a regular basis. In other words, they know where you’re coming from.

Let’s say your blog covers topics ranging from politics to kitchen appliances. Your mission is to make people think about all of the inanities of modern society. This can be a difficult concept to convey. Enter the motivational quote.

Everyone has heard of Albert Einstein and what he has to say is not easily refuted. Browsing the motivational quotes, you discover this gem, which perfectly describes your take and position on all of the issues you post: “I have reached an age when, if someone tells me to wear socks, I don’t have to.” Just these fifteen words are worth a thousand of the proverbial pictures.

This motivational quote serves to focus your reader’s attention on your tongue in cheek treatment of your subject. The quote helps to prevent any confusion on what your purpose is.

No matter the content or purpose of your website, motivational quotes serve to summarize your viewpoint or message. You needn’t confine yourself to just one quote. If you send out a regular newsletter, your choice of quote might be something other than that used on your site. Let’s say you run a food reference website, with information on the history of food, recipes, trivia and the like. Your website quote might vary from your newsletter’s message, in that your newsletter focuses strictly on food and recipes. The proverb of ‘teaching a man to fish …’ may be the perfect sentiment for your newsletter, although not comprehensive enough for your website. Don’t be afraid to have more than one motivational quote associated with your business.

Focusing your reader is paramount to your website’s success. Now go take a look at some quotes. Have fun choosing the one or two, from thousands, that perfectly states your position. Your audience will grow, just by making use of this simple technique.

Jewelry Boxes

Organizing your jewelry boxes for fingertip access!

Today’s woman views her jewelry collection as a major fashion accessory. With faux jewels that look so much like the real deal at first glance, it’s possible to have a huge collection of costume jewelry that is suitable for the dressiest occasions and costumes. With the sophisticated technology in plastics and faux metals, you can wear jewels of the costume variety that make you look like a celebrity at a very economical price.

What this means is that most women have jewelry collections that Grandma could only dream of having in her dresser. With the plethora of jewelry in the closets of most women today, you need more jewelry boxes than might be displayed on your dresser top. You also need a better method of organizing your jewelry or you’ll undoubtedly end up with a jumble of necklaces, bracelets and earrings tangled in a mass of knots.

Fortunately, along with the technological developments in jewelry choices, you’ve got jewelry boxes which help you keep everything in order. Just like the kitchen and closet organizers, there’s now a jewelry box for every type of collection.

For your truly precious jewels, the beautiful carved wooden, crystal and pewter jewelry boxes are dresser-top worthy and keep those fine jewelry items individually nestled on little beds of velvet.

However, for the more everyday costume wear pieces, something a little simpler with an emphasis on organization and efficiency of use is a great solution.

There are clear Lucite(TM) jewelry boxes which make terrific containers for different types of costume pieces. For example, there are boxes designed to hold all your bracelets, with compartments sized just for bracelets. Some have drawers which slide out and come in tiers, somewhat like those sewing supply caddies which house your sewing notions. The clear plastic allows you to view your jewelry at a glance.

Other styles of the Lucite(TM) jewelry boxes are sized for earrings. Some of the necklace boxes even have a handy clip around which you can hook the clasp, keeping the chain from tangling when stored. Still others have combination compartments, providing a neat and handy solution to storing and finding matching sets.

If you have a large collection, all you need is one large dresser drawer devoted to your costume jewelry. Buy a selection of these jewelry boxes tailored to your jewelry. This is a boon to any woman, neat freak or not. With time at such a premium, you don’t have time to be rummaging through a jumbled drawer for a pair of earrings and still get to work on time.

If you’re a woman with a jewelry collection of any size, look into these new organizing wonders, then pick up a few. Try them, you’ll like them!

Halloween Decorations

I know a lot of people that think Halloween is one of the best holidays going, and that is because the decorating is so much fun. Though all holidays have meaning to almost everyone, Halloween is one that is more about fun than anything else. Not only do kids and adults alike get to dress up like almost anything they want, they can go out and have a good time too. Even better, Halloween decorations can be just about anything whether or not you want to go for fun or for scary.

I have noticed that there are more Halloween decorations on my street each year than there are Christmas decorations. I think the biggest reason for this is because Halloween is not a holiday that is full of many other things to do. At Christmas time, we have a lot to do. We have functions, shopping, and planning to do. For Halloween, we just enjoy the day, or the night, and that is that. This means there is much more time to relax and think about choosing the right Halloween decorations. When you don’t have anything else to do, besides perhaps buying candy, you can do whatever it is that you want. The weather tends to be better too.

Marble Sculpture

When I was a kid, I used to love marble sculpture. We would go and look at works by Rodin down at the Detroit Institute of arts. They only had a few of them, but they were absolutely exquisite. To this day, I have never seen a marble sculptor like Rodin, but there are many good ones. The Greeks, for example, had some extremely beautiful marble sculptures. Although some of them have been damaged or destroyed by the years, the features that remain intact are still quite gorgeous.

Thinking about the beauty of stone sculpture, I wonder why it is not done more commonly nowadays. When I look in a modern art gallery, I see very few sculpture marble examples. Most modern Art is abstract forms made out of contemporary materials. Perhaps they will use wood, perhaps plastics, but never stone. It is almost as if artists don’t have the patience to make marble sculptures anymore. If you talk to the artist, they may tell you that they make forms in the media that appeal to them most, but I think this is a load of hooey. The great thing about marble sculpture is that the artist has to put so much time and so much thought into it. Anyone can cobble together an abstract form out of plastics or cloth, but making a life size sculpture of marble really require some skill and some dedication.

Teaching Kids Reading Comprehension Strategies

When kids are tested in reading comprehension skills, recent results show poor scores. This is an issue of great importance among educators. A great deal of research has been conducted to attempt to develop reading comprehension strategies to reverse this unfortunate trend.

As a parent, teaching kids these strategies can begin before your child ever gets to school. This teaching process should continue throughout the school years. The results will astound you. The benefits last a lifetime. Here are techniques you can use to give your child a solid base from which to grow. These methods are easy and do not require formal education in teaching.

Start with favorite bedtime story books. Children’s story books are lavishly illustrated, but with relatively few words. Here’s where you should encourage a child to ask, “Why?” For example, the hero of your story is a flamingo, scouring the waters for her lost babies. As you read, you might point out the brilliant pink coloring. Pose a question like, “Wow, she’s pink! I wonder why she’s such a bright pink?” The child may respond with, “Does she have a sunburn?” Then, you can say, “Oh, I remember why! I read (or saw on TV) that they’re so pink because all they eat are pink shrimp. They eat so many, they turn pink!” Encouraging kids to understand the ‘why’ of things engenders curiosity, retention and an inclination to integrate other sources of knowledge when they read.

Building vocabulary indisputably increases reading comprehension, through all age groups. Learning new words develops another important component in reading comprehension strategies. Let’s say your flamingo story has a page illustrated with fluffy white clouds. Perhaps the word fluffy is not used in the text. Take the opportunity to introduce a new word. Point this picture out to your young reader. “That’s such a soft, fluffy cloud. Umm, nice.” There are many adjectives that might be attributed to a cloud: fluffy, dark, long, rainy, etcetera. These qualifying words promote good reading comprehension.

The Social Groups In Your Life

Perhaps the biggest problem with social groups is when they are limiting to people as they grow. Some see the issue of these groups as a world wide problem, with larger groups of people being the problem. That is very true, and many of the problems we face on a global level have everything to do with these groups. If you think of it in your own life though, the definition of these are a bit different, but they can have the same affect on your life if that is what you allow to happen.

The time when local social groups are going to mean the most is in high school. Teenagers are learning about who they are and where they fit it in within the world around them. This can lead to problems. Social groups within schools can be very exclusive and very rough. Image is everything at this age because teens don’t know enough about themselves to distinguish themselves in any other way. That doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with them, that is just how it is at that age. Some excel in these social climates and others have a horrible time.

Terry Pratchett Books

Ever since I got a high speed Internet connection, I have been pretty much addicted to downloadable audio books. You see, I work at home as a telephone translator. Basically, much of my time is spent waiting around for clients to call. This gives me plenty of free time, which at first was a good thing. I love being able to relax and work in my pajamas. After awhile, however, I started to go stir crazy. I couldn’t very well take a walk and get my nervous energy out because I might miss a client. That is when something unexpected jumped in and saved me – Terry Pratchett audio books.

In the past I have never been a big fan of listening to books on tape. Most of the companies put out Stephen King books and other similar trashy fare. None of that could really hold my attention. On the other hand, I didn’t really want to listen to Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice on tape either. Audio books make it difficult to go back and reread a word that you missed, and I am not a very good auditory learner. The Terry Pratchett audio books, however, struck just the right balance between highbrow and lowbrow. A terry pratchett audio book is very easy to understand, but some of the ideas are surprisingly interesting and sophisticated.

Most of the Terry Pratchett books, with a couple exceptions, take place in an imaginary location known as Diskworld. It is basically the world as people have often imagined it – it is shaped like a disk and balanced on top of a giant turtle who is swimming through space. The humor is lighthearted satire, making allusions to various people and events throughout human history. Listening to Terry Pratchett audio books simultaneously relaxes you and makes you feel intelligent. That is one thing that is great about Terry Pratchett audio books. I love easy reading that still doesn’t insult your intelligence.

Just because something is light and fluffy doesn’t mean it has to be completely moronic. Terry Pratchett seems to know this as well as anyone else. He is a true master of his craft. Terry Pratchett audio books are very difficult to put down, but also very easy to pick up again. There is always enough going on to capture your interest, but not so much that you need to be deeply involved. In short, they are the perfect listening for my situation.

University Degrees Help You Earn More

Think twice before choosing not to go to college. In the real world university degrees and even two-year degrees from community colleges allow you to earn a better income. As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, employers want employees that have a great education. They are not only better prepared for the work, but acquiring a degree shows real dedication. Therefore it’s only natural that those who earn university degrees get paid higher salaries that those with a mere high school diploma. How much school have you completed thus far?

The popular grade school test question: Who discovered America?

In the third or fourth grade, a dozen hands will fly up in the classrooom when the teacher asks, “Now who can tell me: who discovered America?” The normal answer is, Christopher Columbus. In fact, if you were to query adults, nine out of ten will say the same. It’s curious that this is the generally accepted truth, because the facts contradict this answer, in no uncertain terms.

Webster’s New World Dictionary defines the word, discover, as follows: “1. to be the first to find out, see, etc. 2. to learn of the existence of.”

It is a fact that the many Native American tribes were living in America some 1500 years ago, long before Captain Columbus set off from Spain. It may be argued that he and his crew were the first Europeans to see what is now America. However, the Native Americans were already ensconced firmly on the land their ancestors had been the first to see many centuries before.

It’s also well known that the Vikings preceded Columbus to what we call America. The Vikings were able and diligent mariners, with hand-built ships that carried them across the seas, to Britain, Greenland and right on to North America in the 8th and 9th centuries. Some would say that the Vikings were not European, but Scandinavian. Nonetheless, the Scandinavian Vikings were the first people to interact with the already native populations of America.
